In 1972, I began my graphic design career in package design, and worked my way through advertising, marketing, and printing agencies until I started Joe LaMay Design in 1982, and have been a freelance designer ever since. At the same time, I have enjoyed a career in music as a performing singer/songwriter, festival/concert booker, and independent record label owner.
Early on, through my connection with the music industry, I began designing album covers for fellow players, and through word of mouth gained a reputation as "a musician designing for musicians". Over the years I have enjoyed working with fellow musicians and music labels, as well as festival and concert organizations.
I have designed CD packaging and promotional materials for high profile artists such as Garth Hudson (The Band), Matt Morris, and others - as well as touring folk and roots musicians like Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Leslie Ritter & Scott Petito, Douglas Clegg, Pat Maloney, The Dady Brothers, Bernice Lewis, and more. The December 2001 issue of Performing Songwriter featured me in an article on "From Design to Duplication of Your CD".
Most of my design projects are done over the internet - so please take a look at my work and contact me if you're looking for an affordable quality designer who understands what a musician needs.
