Old KY 27 Tunnel
Burnside • Pulaski County

In 1950, with the completion of the Wolf Creek Dam, the Cumberland River was raised 150 feet and Lake Cumberland was formed. The abandoned tunnel (center of the photo), which used to carry KY 27 onto a bridge heading into Old Burnside, became submerged below the new water level. Because the Wolf Creek Dam is currently being repaired, the water level has been lowered about 70 feet, and the tunnel is now plain to see.
