One More Banjo Laid Down PDF
Words and Music by Joe LaMay

I heard the news on a lonesome day
A long time friend had passed away
In a West Virginia mountain town
One more banjo has been laid down

How I loved to hear the way he played
The songs he learned in his younger days
Out on the back porch with a bunch of friends
We'd sing the songs that'll never end

One more banjo laid down
How I long to hear that mountain sound
That old-time music goin' round and round
But one more banjo has been laid down

When I was young he took me in
And taught me how to play and sing
He opened up this world to me
Where songs are real and will forever be

Down through the years he shared the songs
With all the young ones who came along
Now that he's gone we carry on
For one more banjo thats been laid down

Chorus

The time will come when we must go
And leave behind the things we know
I hope and pray that when we're gone
The ones who stay will carry on

Chorus
