Hello, I'm Sherri Reese. I’m a watercolor painter, a musician, and a songwriter, and truth be told, I’ve been makin’ things with my hands and heart for as long as I can remember. Even way back in grade school, if there was a classroom to decorate for the holidays, I was the one folks counted on to spruce it up.
Come my teenage years, I picked up a guitar and taught myself to sing, just by ear and a whole lotta practice. Before long, I was playin’ bluegrass and old-time folk tunes with my dad, my daughter, and my niece - we had ourselves a little family band, and those are memories I still treasure. Later on, I joined up with fellow songwriter and folk musician Joe LaMay. I even took it upon myself to learn the banjo, and we’ve been playin’ together as LaMay and Reese since 1998. Now, painting’s always been in the back of my mind, but in 2016 I finally said, “Alright, it’s time,” and dove headfirst into watercolor. I figured I’d mostly paint birds, but it didn’t take long to realize those birds needed somewhere to land - so I started working on backgrounds, which led me straight into landscapes and rural scenes. Having grown up on a farm in Central New York, spent some years down in south-central Kentucky, and now finding myself back in western New York, I reckon I’ve got a pretty good feel for country life and the beauty of it. This here website is a place where I can share that work with you - and if something catches your eye, well, you can take a piece of it home, too.
